Swing dancing is an art form created by black dancers and musicians. We would not be here today if it were not for their creativity and spirit. Over the years, this art form has been embraced by the white community so much that its roots are at risk of being forgotten. We at Dal Kings Swing want to say that we are grateful to all the black performers who created this art form, who have kept it alive for almost a century, and who continue to do it today, contributing greatly to a thriving world wide community. Without you we would not be here.
And so that makes the injustice that is faced by black people in the United States (where most of our dance heroes are from) and here in Canada, painful for us to witness. Dal Kings Swing condemns the systemic oppression of black people, from over-policing, food insecurity, housing insecurity, unfair hiring policies, and the list goes on, in North America. We support the protesters who are saying, enough. We add our voice and we hope you will too.
