  • Dalplex 6260 South Street Halifax, NS, B3H 4R2 Canada (map)

November Module is Musicality & Rhythm

Dates (4 classes): Wed, Nov 6, Nov 13, Nov 20, Nov 27
Time: 7:30-9 pm
Location: Dalplex
Price: $30 (or $10/class)
*Prerequisite: Lindy Level 1, able to do basic 6-count (preferable to be able to do swing out patterns if possible).*

We are excited to bring Ian Whitman, one of Halifax’s original Lindy Hop DJ’s, as a special guest teacher for this musicality series. Ian will take you on an intimate journey of understanding jazz & swing music from the point of view of both a musician and a dancer so that you can deepen your experience of the dance. Jessie Litven will also be teaching, and she will have you practicing playing with different sounds and rhythms with your feet and the rest of your body. How do swing songs build momentum? What’s a true swing rhythm? How can you hear different elements and instruments of a song? How can you know what’s happening in a song even if you’ve never heard it before so that you can hit that perfect break? Do we always need to keep those triple steps or can we change things up? We will be putting aside everything we’ve learned so far and diving into the soul of what moves us to dance, letting us express ourselves as if we were part of the band.

Note: While this is a four-week class is not explicitly progressive, it is encouraged to do all four classes as a whole series if possible.
