She quickly fell in love with the dance and has had the opportunity to travel to France, Boston, Montreal, and Ottawa to expand her repertoire and skills in both Lindy and Blues. One of our valued volunteer teachers for the past 4+ years, Kristie specializes in technique as a follow, but also has experience leading. She would love for you to ask her for a dance!

Mark Pavlovski

VP Dalhousie

I love lindy. I love blues. I joined DSDS when it was still in diapers, and 8 years later I'm still here. At first it was just a good way to meet cool people, but it quickly became an integral part of my life. Since then I've been some places, learned some things. For me swing dancing is the music, the people, and the fun, as much fun as you can handle. The perfect blend of light hearted and intimate. If I were a kangaroo i'd carry halifax swing scene in my pouch. I want it to grow up big and strong, and will do everything I can to see it happen!

Connie Snider

Community member at Large

Hello Halifax Community!

This is my second term as Community Member at Large. Dance has always been a huge part of my life and I have been dancing with Dalhousie Swing Dance Society for almost four years now. I have been working hard to grow the community awareness of the wonderful dance opportunities this group brings to the HRM. This is one of the most welcoming group of dancers I have ever had the privilege to be involved with. When they say no partner needed they mean it! If you have ever considered joining a dance class this is THE one to join. Feel free to contact me anytime for info on lessons or dance events going on in the community!

See you on the dance floor! Contact Connie!

Chris Maxwell

Chris first took a swing class in October, 2007 as a favour to a friend who was desperate to fill out the swing dance class she was teaching with enough beginner leads. At the end of that series, he found out about the DSDS, and joined the following Fall.

"To be honest, I might not have continued if the prices had not been so cheap.", he laughs. He credits the experience of dancing with many people in classes, and being encouraged to ask people to dance (and especially being asked to dance) with really helping him out of being shy and socially awkward. This will be his third year on the DSDS executive. He recently went to his first away-workshop, and wishes he had started doing so sooner.

As the newest member of the executive team, I’m excited to have the opportunity to help make the Halifax swing dancing and blues scene the best that it can be. I started dancing with the DSDS four years ago, and since then, I’ve had to opportunity to spend a year learning Lindy and Blues in Vancouver. I’m happy to be back on the east coast and have the chance to share what I’ve learned with all of you, so let’s get out on the dance floor!
